We are in a forest with no public transport nearby. Own transport essential. For those not brave enough to swim the lake, there is a floating lido and the nautical club, which hires out canoes for exploring the lake as well as very inexpensive mooring for boats. Fishing is a national pastime on the lake, with competitions each year. A very helpful and informative Tourist Office is housed in a beautiful, restored stone building which also hosts regular art exhibitions.

During the summer there is a full itinerary of festas, always very well attended, with a big open air concert and firework finale. This is a lovely family home with all the charm of rural Portugal. The house in itself is not heavily decorated, it's more of a humble place for you to get some rest from the daily schedules and worries.
The house gets plenty of light and was recently worked on to get a better balance in temperature.
There's a private small patio at the back with some grass which would be a great place to have a barbecue, get some friends together, etc. We're ready to welcome you and whoever you bring! There are two sets of stairs, one outside and one on the inside, both used to get to the main floor where everything is. Most of the beds are doubles, one of them is slightly smaller; we haven't supplied sheets and towels before but if you need them we'll make sure to get everything ready no extra costs.
If you are coming in the winter colder season we'll make sure to get you some heaters and teach you how to use them when you get there.
Please feel free to ask about any other amenities or appliances that you might need, they might be available and I've just forgotten to list them or might not be in the house but ready to be set. This is not a very busy place so you might find that people keep more to themselves, however if you go to the cafe or to the center of Castanheira de Pera you will find a little bit more people, all friendly and as helpful as they can be!

The river beaches of mosteiro, fragas de sao simao, and the cabril dam are all within a short drive.
